Gold Gets It’s Value In 2 Ways:
1. The Karat Weight
2. The Actual Weight
First, we must find out the actual karat of your gold. This is done by looking for karat marking on your piece of jewelry, and through acid and electronic testing. This karat weight can range from 8 karat to 24 karat.
Once we find out the karat of your gold, this will tell us how much pure gold is actually in your gold. For example, pure gold is 24 karat, so if you have a 10 karat piece of jewelry, simply divide 10 into 24, and you will find that your piece of jewelry is 41% pure gold.
Next, we need to weigh the gold. We weigh in troy ounces, because that is what the market price of gold is based off of (1 troy ounce of pure 24 karat gold).
Once we have these two numbers (the karat and the weight), we can compare them to the current market price of gold and this will give us the value of your gold.
